ADHD Coaching · Career & Personal Development

Helping you find clarity, understand what’s getting in the way, and work out what comes next.

About me

I’m Pete Lockhart, a Career & Development Coach with more than 25 years’ experience in recruitment, career management and helping people navigate work and career decisions. I also hold a Master’s degree in Career Counselling and Management.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in January 2026. Looking back, I can now recognise patterns in my own working life - difficulties with focus, organisation, overwhelm, motivation and approaching certain tasks - that make much more sense through an ADHD lens. That lived experience is an important part of how I work.

Alongside my career background, I have completed specialist ADHD coach training with the ADD Coach Academy (ADDCA). I have worked in a number of sectors including finance, recruitment and charities.

I live and work in Devon in the UK and spend my spare time outdoors as much as possible - in particular on Dartmoor or the Devon coast with my family. I also try to keep fit by running (increasingly run-walking which I’m assured is a thing) and I’ve recently taken up padel (along with half of the local over-50’s population) until my ADHD boredom threshold is reached!

Start with a conversation

The first step is a free 30-minute introductory call.

It gives you a chance to tell me a little about yourself, what has brought you to coaching and what you would like to be different. If ADHD is part of the picture, we can also talk about how you feel it may be affecting your work or wider life.

You may already have an ADHD diagnosis, be waiting for an assessment, or simply be wondering whether ADHD might explain some of your experiences. You don’t need a formal diagnosis to work with me.

If you decide to continue, you can then book your first 50-minute one-to-one coaching session. Sessions take place online using Microsoft Teams.

What happens in coaching?

Coaching is a conversation with a purpose, but you don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what that purpose is.

Sometimes you may have a clear goal. At other times, you might simply know that something isn’t working, that you feel stuck, or that you want to understand yourself or your situation better.

We work together to explore what is happening, what matters to you and what may be getting in the way. That might involve noticing patterns, recognising strengths, challenging assumptions, looking at something differently or exploring practical next steps.

And not every session has to end with an action plan. Sometimes the most useful outcome is greater clarity - understanding what is happening, recognising something you hadn’t noticed before or becoming clearer about what you want.

What does ADHD coaching add?

ADHD coaching brings an understanding of the ways ADHD can affect everyday life. That might include difficulties with:

  • getting started or procrastinating

  • motivation and maintaining momentum

  • attention and distraction

  • organising and prioritising

  • managing time and deadlines

  • remembering what you intended to do

  • switching between tasks

  • feeling overwhelmed by competing demands

  • following through on plans

  • confidence after years of finding some things unexpectedly difficult

Coaching gives you the opportunity to understand how ADHD shows up for you, what already works, what doesn’t, and what might make things easier for your particular brain and circumstances.

Career coaching — and beyond

My professional background means I have particular experience and interest in careers and working life.

You might want to explore a career change, understand what you need from work, find ways of working more effectively in your current role, rebuild confidence after a difficult period, return to work or simply work out what comes next.

I can also support you with wider personal challenges.

ADHD doesn’t neatly stop when the working day ends. Difficulties with motivation, organisation, confidence, decision-making, competing demands or simply feeling stuck can affect many areas of life.

What coaching isn’t

Coaching isn’t counselling or psychotherapy, and it isn’t a substitute for mental-health or medical treatment.

Counselling may explore emotional difficulties, past experiences and the impact they continue to have in the present. Coaching may touch on past experiences where they help us understand what is happening now, but the focus remains on awareness, choice and moving forward rather than on treating psychological distress.

If at any point it seems that counselling, therapy or another form of specialist support would be more appropriate, we can talk about that openly.

Specialist ADHD coach training

I am currently training with the ADD Coach Academy (ADDCA) and working towards ADDCA certification.

Founded in 1998, ADDCA is a specialist ADHD coach training organisation with an international community of students and coaches. Its training is accredited by both the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and the Professional Association for ADHD Coaches (PAAC), bringing together recognised professional coaching standards with specialist ADHD knowledge.
